Three card poker is a card game played in both land-based and online casinos. It has been around since the late 1990s and can be found in almost any casino. There are several variations of the game such as Prime or Three Card Progressive Poker, but this article will focus on the basic game. Three Card Poker is a game of chance derived from five card stud idnpoker. The hand rankings are the same as in poker except that only three cards are used. This means that a straight or flush only needs three cards in a row or of the same suit and not five cards.
A bet on Three consists of two separate bets, Pair Plus is one bet and Ante and Play is the other bet. Each player can place a bet on one or both of these bets before the game starts. The initial bet on the Ante and Play option is called Ante. After bets are placed, three cards are dealt to each player and dealer. Players then have the option to place play bets by matching their bets or folding them. The hands then opened. The dealer must have a High Queen hand or better for the dealer’s hand to qualify. The reason why this is important is that if the dealer’s hand doesn’t qualify, only bets are played and they are paid out flat. Play stakes are refunded.
If the dealer’s hand meets the requirements, then each player’s hand is compared to the dealer’s hand. If the payer’s hand loses, the Play and Play bet bets are lost. If the player wins, Ante and Play bets are paid in even money. If the hand is tied then there are no bets and the bet is returned to the player. There are also bet bonuses that don’t play against the dealer’s hand. Ante bonuses are paid out flat for straights, four to one for three of a kind and five to one for straight flushes. This bonus is paid even if the dealer’s hand is better than the player’s hand.
The Pair Plus bet loses if the player has less than one pair and wins with a pair or better. Pair Plus bets are not against the dealer so the dealer bet is not an issue with this bet. Pays if the dealer doesn’t qualify or if the dealer’s hand beats the player’s hand. Pair Plus bets are paid out at the following rates:
Spouse pays 1 to 1
Flush pays 4 to 1
A straight pays 6 to 1
3 of the kind pay 30 to 1
Straight flush pays 40 to 1
